Frequently asked

Common questions.

Does it hurt much?

It depends on placement and size. Fine line is generally very tolerable. Areas with more bone or thinner skin — ribs, feet, hands, spine — are more sensitive than the forearm or thigh. Every session runs at a calm pace, with breaks whenever you need them.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Every piece is quoted individually: the figure depends on size, detail and placement, and is agreed before the session. Send your idea on WhatsApp and you get an estimate within 12 hours.

How do I book a session?

On WhatsApp, with your idea, the placement, a rough size and your dates. The full process is set out on the booking process page.

I'm on holiday in Madeira. Is there enough time?

Yes. Send your idea and travel dates before you arrive — the design is prepared in advance and the session is planned around your stay. The earlier you write, the better the chance of a slot on your dates.

It is my first tattoo. What should I know?

Say so in your first message. Hugo explains each step, helps you choose placement and size, shows you the design before starting and pauses whenever you need. Eat beforehand and bring water.

What hygiene measures are in place?

Sterile single-use materials, opened in front of you, certified inks and the space disinfected between sessions. It is all set out on the hygiene and safety page.

How do I care for it while it heals?

You get instructions for the first days and direct follow-up throughout. Avoid sun, sea and swimming pools in the early stage and follow the aftercare guide.

How long until I can go to the beach?

No sea or pool until the skin has closed — expect two to three weeks. Direct sun on the piece only after that, and always with high SPF. In Madeira this is the question holidaymakers ask most, and it is worth planning the session around it.

Can I fly straight afterwards?

Yes. Flying is not a problem with a fresh tattoo, as long as you keep it clean, covered and out of the sun on the way.

Do you do cover-ups?

It depends entirely on the existing piece: size, density and colour. Send a well-lit photo and Hugo will tell you honestly whether it is workable in black and grey, or whether another route is better.

Do you do touch-ups?

If a piece needs adjusting once healed, talk to Hugo — it is looked at case by case, with a photo of the healed work.

Do you work in colour?

No. Hugo's work is fine line and black and grey. If your idea really needs colour, he will tell you upfront.

Do you tattoo under-18s?

No, under no circumstances. Bring photo identification.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, but the space is shared — let Hugo know in advance how many people are coming.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Service is in Portuguese, English and Spanish, from the first message through to healing follow-up.

Where exactly are you?

At Rua do Bom Jesus, 10, Funchal, in central Funchal. Hours: Monday to Saturday, 09:30–21:00 · Closed Sunday. The contact page has the map and directions.
